Online Issues.

Internet issues can be caused by various different things, however the main problem these create is accessibility issues. These issues will stop people from linking reference materiel or browsing for contacts and imagery, and will can make it difficult for any kind of work to be done.

One example of an online issue could be a company having a website that has gone down. This could cause various problems and stem the workflow of any company. If this issue occurs, it could be down for various reasons and may be hard to get back up again. Depending on the purpose of the website, this could be a big blow dealt to a company. One group which may struggle with an issue like this is the web content managers. This is because they will not be able to use the site while it is down. This stops then testing and improving the site, which stops a lot of work as their is nothing new to develop for a lot of different branches. The issue of not being able to access servers while they’re down is running the website on a local and global server so even when it is offline it can be tested, this alongside an offline maintenance would assist in making sure the website is available for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Another example of the internet being an issue could be a work-space not having access to the internet due to poor wi-fi in an office. This kind of problem could lose people assets/references and communication, which are both really important in IT. Someone who would be affected by this would a graphic designer, as he would not be able to access and research different ideas based off of already successful products, and would mean they may not create an effective product. The designer may also lack the ability to downloads assets and plug ins for applications such as Adobe Photoshop, which are often used to assist in decreasing the time it takes to make a product. To solve this issue, it is important to use wired systems over wireless as the connection is not just faster but more reliable, it could also help to set up a LAN alongside this, and have a network to access the internet through so download and upload can be dedicated, meaning that individual units are faster when they need to be.

Cultural Differences.

 

Cultural Differences in IT is a common issue in recent times. A cultural difference can be something small, like a gesture or an action, to being something  large, such as language barriers. Therefore, it is important to be aware of these differences and the appropriate solutions to avoid them.

One example of a cultural difference is in religion. In modern society, there are various faiths. Some of these have adverse effects on an employee, which may lead to a worker being less focused and able, or require them to take short brakes. An example where this is prevalent in IT would be an IT manager making a presentation/setting work. The manager would have to understand this, as if they do not the employee may have health effects (For example over working someone in the holiday ‘Ramadan’), or cause them to leave. The ways for an IT manager to ensure that this is not an issue could be by learning about the culture, and working alongside their employee to ensure their health and that they can follow their faith.

A second example of cultural differences could be a gesture or a language. It is important that an IT worker is aware of the accessibility of their information. If something has global access it is important to ensure that anyone can read it and not be offended. This could happen when working as a graphic designer. When working, it would be important to know your target audience and the range they have, as a gesture or word could be offensive or viewed as profanity in another country, which could lead to various issues with a companies status and the workers credibility. It is therefore important for a graphic designer to work knowing the range of people the information will be available to, and then editing their work so it is suitable.

Environmental Issues.

Environmental issues host a large range of different problems. These problems all have a common issue which is that they are external problems caused by a work-space/office that is hindering the production or effectiveness of work being done.

One type of environmental issue could be the noise pollution. Background noise is something which can be very distracting and can break communication up. This is a problem as it could lead to multiple issues in an office. An example of this could be an IT technician. If the technician is not able to understand the task they are given, they will struggle to complete it. This is because an IT technician must have some kind of background on a given task, so they can use a process of elimination in order to find a solution to the problem. A sound causes this problem by being more prevalent than someones speech, stopping the IT technician from understanding them. A solution to this problem would be moving away from the noisy area, or using another form of communication such as written communication to avoid sound being a factor.

A second issue which may appear as an environmental factor could be temperature. Temperature is something which can affect both hardware and the people operating it. The problems this lead to is often inefficiency in workers or hardware faults such as motherboards power down because of high CPU temperatures. In IT, someone who would have this problem a lot would be a system administrator. System administrators often work in close proximity to a lot of hardware, which can lead to rooms getting warm. This could slow them down and make the workers more drowsy, stopping the system administrator being as effective. Hardware problems can also come from the environment being to warm as well, as the fans will not be as effective, this may hinder the work of a system administrator as the hardware could then be acting faulty. A solution to cool the air down in the room could be done via extraction fans in the room, or opening doors and windows. As an alternative to fans, water cooling systems could be used on hardware to cool it down and reduce the heat is produces, also reducing the heat in the room.

Hardware Problems.

Hardware issues are problems with the actual components of a piece of technology, this ranges from small and insignificant problems like a power supply not powering an auxiliary fan, or issue with a motherboard bridge. The problems with hardware can sometimes be very time consuming and expensive, or cheap and short. This means there is a variety of problems.

One example problems with hardware is a hard drive appearing to be missing or not in use. This problem could stop someone from being able to access their files, and stop them from working on a project as they won’t have the hard drive to take the information from. A software engineer may come across this issue while working in IT, and this would stop the worker from being able to continue working on an instance of an algorithm or a test run script they were writing. This problem could be a variety of things, however one solution could be moving which SATA port it is plugged into. If this isn’t successful, a replacement of hardware may be needed, this could lose work, although most businesses have a server to avoid this being a problem, mean all data is backed up.

A second problem that could happen with hardware is that a projector in a conference room may be faulty. This problem could cause a lot of problems, as it will most likely take technicians to fix it. An IT manager may be the one this problem would affect, this issue could make the business look less professional, and could stop effective time management and create issue with the availability of technicians and managers. To avoid this from happening, most businesses will have a spare mobile projector to use if another one is faulty, so they can then order another to replace the damaged one.
